The Never-Ending Realm of Research

The INSTAR Center is proudly allied with five major universities in order to develop research programs as well as to entice undergraduate and graduate students, post-doctoral students and faculty from entomology departments world-wide to conduct research at its facilities in Butterfly Kingdom. The INSTAR Center will operate a university-level research lab, also located within Butterfly Kingdom, to delve into the fields of behavior, ecology, population genetics, systematics, and conservation biology.

Another stimulating layer of this education and research endeavor is in the accessibility of the researchers. Much of their lab-work can be viewed through a window, with live commentary and conversation. You may view the action from the eyes of the technician via a video-microscope perspective, as if you were looking through the microscope yourself!

Conservation efforts on the breeding and reintroduction of threatened and endangered species will indeed be a major focus of INSTAR. There are over 2,400 species of terrestrial invertebrates of conservational concern, underscoring that it is not solely birds, mammals, and other vertebrates that are threatened by mankind's actions.

The INSTAR Center works in concert with Butterfly Kingdom to display numerous species, elevating conservational awareness of butterflies, insects and other invertebrates. Such is this well-joined union, geared toward an experience like no other - an exploration into the world of butterflies . . . of all invertebrates . . . of science.
